Natural Ways to Get Rid of Ants in Your House and Garden

If you’re tired of dealing with ants invading your home and yard, there are many natural solutions that work effectively. Best of all, these methods avoid harmful pesticides. Here are some simple, eco-friendly ways to keep ants out of your living space.

1. White Vinegar

The strong scent of vinegar disrupts the ants’ scent trails, making it an excellent natural ant repellent.

Instructions: In a spray bottle, mix one part white vinegar with two parts water. Spray the mixture along areas where ants tend to enter, such as baseboards, windowsills, and entry points.

2. Food-Grade Diatomaceous Earth 🌿

Diatomaceous earth is a powder made from fossilized algae. It kills ants by damaging their exoskeletons, causing them to dehydrate, but it’s harmless to humans and pets.

Instructions: Sprinkle food-grade diatomaceous earth along ant trails, around entry points, and around your home’s foundation. Reapply after it rains or after cleaning.

3. Cinnamon

Ants dislike the strong smell of cinnamon, making it a natural deterrent.

Instructions: Sprinkle ground cinnamon near entry points, windowsills, and other areas where ants enter. You can also mix cinnamon essential oil with water and spray it in these areas.

4. Coffee Grounds ☕️

Ants are repelled by the strong scent and acidity of coffee grounds, which makes them a great, non-toxic option.

Instructions: Scatter used coffee grounds around plants in your garden, near entry points, or along ant trails. Coffee grounds can also double as a natural fertilizer for your garden soil.

5. Lemon Juice 🍋

Lemon juice’s acidity disrupts the ants’ ability to follow scent trails, making it an effective natural insecticide.

Instructions: Use fresh lemon juice and apply it to baseboards, windowsills, and entry points. For added protection, leave lemon peels near the entry points.

6. Peppermint Oil 🌿
