It will depend on the size of the potatoes how long you bake them for. Their skin should be crispy and the meat should be easy to cut with a fork.
Before taking the potatoes out of the oven, make sure they are safe. They will be very hot when you first touch them, so wait a few minutes.
Use a fork to fluff up the inside of each potato after cutting it open lengthwise.
Put it on a hot plate and top it with butter, sour cream, grated cheese, chopped chives, bacon bits, or anything else you like.
