HOMEMADE NAAN BREAD

ghee (clarified butter)

  • Additional melted butter or ghee for brushing
  • Optional: minced garlic, chopped cilantro, or nigella seeds for topping
  • Instructions:

    1. Prepare the Dough:
      • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
      • Add the yogurt and mix it in.
      • Slowly add the lukewarm water, a little at a time, and mix until a soft dough forms.
      • Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
    2. Let the Dough Rise:
      • Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rest in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
    3. Shape the Naan:
      • After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6-8 equal portions.
      • Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten it with your hands.
    4. Cook the Naan:
      • Preheat a skillet or non-stick pan over medium-high heat.
      • Roll out each portion of dough into a teardrop or oval shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
      • Place the rolled-out dough onto the hot skillet and cook for about 1-2 minutes, or until bubbles start to form on the surface.
