Cubed Steak with Onion Gravy

  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Season the cubed steaks generously with salt and pepper. Dredge each steak in the flour, shaking off any excess.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil or butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the cubed steaks to the skillet and cook until browned on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove the steaks from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and garlic (if using). Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are soft and golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Pour in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce (if using). Stir well, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
  5. Return the cubed steaks to the skillet, nestling them into the onion mixture. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the steaks are tender.
  6. If you prefer a thicker gravy, mix the cornstarch with a little water to make a slurry. Stir the slurry into the skillet and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the gravy has thickened to your liking.
  7. Taste the gravy and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper if necessary. Serve the cubed steaks hot, topped with the onion gravy. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired.

Enjoy your delicious cubed steak with onion gravy! It pairs well with mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite vegetables.
