basic cake

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition until fully incorporated.
  4. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it out evenly.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
  9. Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer the cake to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting or serving.
  10. Once cooled, you can frost the cake with your favorite frosting, decorate as desired, and enjoy!
